God of Greater Inconvenience

I'm usually well patronronized by the god of minor inconvenience. This weekend, his big sister (only a woman could be such a bitch) decided to give me some attention.

So, Dora is coming this Wednesday (ossum) so I've been working double time for Peak to try to get things squared away so I can -not- work when she's here. It has been nothing but disastrous.

Inconvenience/Disaster .5:  There has been that sudden outbreak of scale after draining my water heater that has rendered my water undrinkable (had to buy a 50$ in fridge water filtering thing + extra filters) and forces me to clean out my faucets every few days because they get clogged with the nasty white crunchy bits.

Disaster 1: Due to naming convention for work, all the files are precedented by a particular handle and then a few semi-ambiguous words. As four of the words were the same between to files, I saved over one file that I had already completed because I didn't look too closely at the file name. I was able to use Windows 7's restore previous version option (OH THANK GOD) and only had to redo an hour's worth of work to get to where I was with the original file. (I now name my files COMPLETELY different things when I'm working on them, and change their names when I commit them to the project.)

Disaster 2:  So I'm happily working along on another scene, spending more time on it than usual (an extra two hours) because I know that I can use it on another scene and reduce the number of assets I have to make and time it takes to make them, over all. I had spent -all- day working on it. It was 1 something am. I'm putting ONE FINAL FINISHING TOUCH on a 6 hour project...when Flash crashes. I'm not too concerned. I open the file. 'Error: Cannot open this file.'. CORRUPTED. There is no way to recover *.FLA files without having saved a SWF, and since what I do doesn't have animation, I never make SWFs. There was no 'previous version' as I hadn't restarted my computer since making it. (It was a one-day thing.) I cried. A loooot. I spent the next three hours (in tears) trying to use various programs to recover it.

Disaster(ish) 3:  So, it's the next day. I think the god of Greater Inconvenience paired up with her little brother for this one. So, it's Sunday. I spend the day working on remaking the above project. Late afternoon, I realize that I actually have a major midterm Monday that I haven't been able to study for. At all. I say 'fukkit' and keep working on the remake. Later, on a break, I go, "Oh, huh, I should read these announcements from Friday about these two classes." They're both announcements for major projects due on the 19th. Five days. To do two major projects. (The professor -had- promised not to give us anything major before spring break...) Two major projects. Which usually take me about 10 hours each. I continue to 'fukkit' and keep trucking on this work project.

It's 4:30pm. The power goes out. THE EFFING POWER GOES OUT. I sit there staring at my blank monitor, going, 'oooooooh fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu~ because in all my corrupt file recovery searches, I had read that Flash is notoriously bad about corrupting flash files that were open during a crash. The power is out for a half hour. For the whole neighborhood, including traffic lights.  I did some cleaning in the daylight.

When it comes back up, I get back to work. Luckily, my project did not corrupt. I set up a system where I'm subversioning my work every time I take a break. I keep working. 9:35pm. POWER GOES OUT. Again, I'm staring at a blank screen, as I was once more in the middle of work. Stare. Stare. Stare. Power is out for another half hour. I can't actually do anything because it's night and I can't see. I play a bit of Disgaea on my DS.

Power comes back up, I finish my work, (5.33 hours to recover the 6 hours of work I'd done initially on that project.) Karl gets home. After another hour or so, we play a game, League of Legends. We lose horribly. We go to play again, we're in the queue with some friends...POWER GOES OUT.

I just went to bed.

It is now today. Time to fail a midterm.
