's been a while. Trying to think what's been new since I last posted...
Karl's Birthday. My epic gift of a good replica of Mal's coat from Firefly failed, (they stopped manufacturing it after they took me money and it was a hassle to get back, etc. etc.) so I ended up getting him a Companion Cube from Portal and a mug with Waffles and my fan art of his cartoon character, Idea Gonk.
I got a cat. Her name is Trauma, she's a grey/brown tabby with emo tendencies.
I started playing Lord of the Rings Online, and ended up with a Lifetime subscription which I don't regret yet- and I'm having a lot of fun. Karl and his friends play, too, so LoTRO nights are amusing, too. They involve everyone dropping and doing pushups at the same time for a screen shot, everyone using the pipe smoking emote as we discuss battle plans, and Spock getting chased by giant death trees because he didn't know the Old Forest had aggro-ey trees.
Uncle Kris did a bunch of repairs on the house, which is nice. I hit my hand twice today with a hammer while chisel & hammering off some of the weeping cement joints on the house that are absolutely disgusting. It's hard to do- you can't just hit the chisel, you have to swing the hammer up and just sort of let it fall on the chisel for shock factor. I miss...a lot. My hand has a bloodclot spot as proof. Doing the whole house will take a long while.
I might/probably have a renter soon, probably December. She's Karl's friend Cameron's girlfriend, who's an extremely talented artist.
Still no stuff from the Binghamton house.
I got hired to work for Dr. T this coming semester grading video games that the kids in his CS 110 class make.
I want to ask for a Rice cooker for my birthday and the LOTR dramatized tapes I used to listen to as a kid.
And I've been remembering a lot of childhood songs lately. It started with the looping song that goes:
"By the waters of Babylon,
We lay down and wept, and wept, for the I Am.
We remember, we remember, we remember, Israel."
I know it's a silly Christian song thinger, but I really like the intonation of it, and the 'we lay down and wept' stanza is pretty moving.
Then I was remembering bits of a Redwall song I put to a melody of my own, but I don't recall it all...then finally, a quest in LOTRO reminded me that I had learned a song from those dramatized tapes on Gil Galad, which, when I decided to sing it once remembering it, I got entirely right the first time through. Memory is astounding.
What else...oh, Karl and I went to the Ren Faire with Cameron and his girlfriend, Ellen. Karl wanted to get me something as a momento, so I picked out a little silver pendant with a dragonfly stamped on it. <3
Aand..hmm..
I'm still playing with the De Sol writings of mine. I know they're not very good, and I keep intending to put it down entirely, but every once in a while, I get a resurgence of interest. Dora would have killed me for being wishy washy about it. XD Wonder if she ever got her writing done...
I..don't remember anything else. So. End.
